• TEAM LIST TUESDAY: 2024 ROUND 3

    Knock-On Effect NSW Cup

The trip across the Tasman didn’t slow our Cup team down, as they came out all guns blazing in Pukekohe. From the get go the team was switched on and worked hard to take a good lead keeping the Warriors to just one try in the first half. Sua Fa’alogo got the Bears on the board with a beautiful chip and chase converted by Keagan Russell-Smith. Only moments later Bears were attacking the line again, Russell-Smith puts through a sweat grubber to the corner that is easily picked up by Kieran Hayman and grounded. Six minutes along and Fa’alogo makes a break off a Russell-Smith offload and darts for the white line, Russell-Smith converts. At the 25th minute, the Warriors find the gap in the Bears defensive line and take their first and only points of the first half. Shortly after, the ball sweeps quickly to the wing and finds the hands of big Dean Ieremia who adds the four points. Not done yet, and two minutes left on the clock in the first half, Jake Toby shoots a long ball out from the centre and it moves quickly along finding Fa’alogo who again chips above the attacking plays and comes up with the bounce of the ball to nab a hattrick.

The second half brought a new fire in the belly of the Warriors but the boys in the red & black were up for the challenge. Riley Meyn backed up Shawn Blore near the line to reap the rewards and Russell-Smith converted. Almost twenty minutes into the second half and the Warriors win an in air challenge off a good bomb on the try line, convert and bring the scores closer. Undeterred, Meyn picks up his double for the game off another perfect grubber off the boot of Russell-Smith but the conversion is waived away. Both teams have one more points grab in them, Warriors player drags the Bears a massive ten metres to the try line and converts taking the score to 18 – 34 in favour of the good guys. Only minutes later the red & black are on the charge, again Toby gets a long ball out to Ieremia on the wing who drives it forward and secures the win 18 – 34 to the Bears. A great win to celebrate Josh Bergamins 50th game in the red & black – thanks for being a Bear Josh! This weekend the team heads up north to play the Knights on Sunday afternoon.
