Captain’s Report: Harvey Norman Women’s Trial

First stretch out of the legs for our mighty women’s Bears team.

It was the first hit out for our Bears Women’s team against a Tigers side who have now played 3 trial matches. A rough first half with a lot of penalties against us and minimal ball possession made life tough, but the girls kept grinding away with solid defence keeping the score 0-0 at half time, showing our structures, policies and hard work at training are all beginning to come together.

The Halftime bell gave us a moment to re-gather and the focus was on set completion, with the first half riddled with basic handling errors.

The girls started the second half with a good tempo and began to find their rhythm showing some individual moments of brilliance.

In the last ten minutes two tries were let in, where the tigers took advantage of a couple of lapses in intensity off the defence line by the Bears. Leaving the final score 0-8 the Tigers way.

Overall the blow out was a great start to build some confidence amongst the ladies and insight into what talent and potential we have. It gave us some clarity on what we need to polish over the weeks to come in preparation for our first game against a very experienced Sharks side. When we get our top 17 girls on the field, there is great signs for a positive start to the season.
